Aluminum Tweeter

Manufactured by Focal, the inverted dome tweeter has been a signature since 1981. It offers the property of being a true micro-loudspeaker. The curvature of the dome is much less pronounced than that of positive domes. This results in better space dispersion and very low directionality, unlike ribbon tweeters. The inverted dome tweeter therefore generates unrivalled dynamics.

In addition to dome shapes, our engineers also work on materials. In this case, they chose aluminum, which increases dome rigidity and reduces distortion. And to perfect the spatialization of sound, a waveguide has been developed. Horizontal frequency response is within +/- 0.5 dB. This performance guarantees an incredibly stable soundstage.

Flax Membrane

As the key component of a loudspeaker, the membrane is at the heart of our acoustic engineers' research. After more than five years of research and development, in 2013 Focal unveiled an exclusive membrane made from flax. Patented, this Flax cone is a sandwich made of very high quality French flax fibre placed between two thin sheets of glass fibre. It satisfies all the criteria of a high-fidelity membrane: lightness to offer good dynamics, rigidity to hold the bass and damping to deliver a neutral, natural, uncolored sound. It is an emblematic Focal innovation in many hi-fi products.
